"It is such, an unparalleled honour for STYLO to have none other than Her Majesty, Raja Permaisuri Agung Tuanku Nur Zahirah to launch and in a sense wave the chequered flag to ignite the start of STYLO!" said Dato' Mamcy Yeoh, CEO and President of STYLO Fashion Festival.

"We are very grateful to Her Majesty for supporting the fashion industry and promoting creativity among local designers by wearing their creations. Her presence will generate international interest and coverage by the foreign media and help put STYLO on the world fashion radar. We are so honoured 'Her Majesty has seen fit to put her stamp of approval on the inaugural STYLO Fashion Festival", added Yeoh.

Themed Shu Uemura's 'the Art of Beauty', featuring Melinda Looi, with hair inspired by L'Oreal Professionnel, the opening night gala promised a mixture of avant garde and surrealist impressionism. Attended by a full-capacity crowd of 400 which included member of royalties, top KL socialites, dignitaries, celebrities, as well as local and foreign media, the show did not disappoint as Shu Uemura's exceptionally artistic make-up was complimented with L'Oreal Professionnel's audacious over-the-top hair works on models wearing Melinda Looi's design

Melinda Looi, one of Malaysia's most famous and successful designers and a member of the "KL Six", featured never-seen-before outfits in innocent shades of white to accentuate Shu Uemura's flamboyant eyelashes, while her feisty range of rich, vibrant.colours complimented the sassiness of L'Oreal Professionnel's hair dos.

The STYLO Fashion Cube, where all the STYLO events will be held, is also the first-ever fashion marquee to be purpose-built for a fashion festival in the country. Just like how it is done at the world's top fashion events in Milan, New York and Paris, the STYLO Fashion Cube is built specifically for the STYLO Festival and will be torn down at the end of the 9-day event. Measuring 3,500 sq. ft., this state-of-the-art fashion arena features a 20metre runway surrounded by tiered seating up to a maximum of 400 guests. The cube is outfitted with technologically advanced sensesurround sound system and multimedia projection capabilities outfitted to create a 3-dimensional theatrical experience for all the shows.

Following the end of the night's fashion gala, guests were then ushered to an after-show party at the STYLO Festival's very own party central, the STYLO Red Room on the 2nd Floor of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. The aftershow party continued the night's `Surrealist' theme and featured fashions and accessories by Tangoo, Malaysia's most avant-garde, alternative and audacious designer duo, Chris Yong who turned the STYLO Red Room into a dreamy, surrealist party venue with quirky attire and funky accessories.
